Dorairaj Prabhakaran, MD, DM, of the Centre for Chronic Disease Control in New Delhi, India, talks with DocWire News about the benefits of a yoga-based cardiac rehabilitation program added to standard care in patients with acute myocardial infarction.
Dr. Prabhakaran presented the results of the Yoga-CaRe study at the American Heart Association 2018 Scientific Sessions, which enrolled over 4,000 patients and randomized them to either enhanced standard care, or to a yoga-based cardiac rehabilitation program. Endpoints of interest included time to first cardiovascular events and quality of life.
The results suggested no additional benefit from yoga-based cardiac rehabilitation, but there was a noted improvement in overall quality of life.
