A novel, experimental, leadless pacemaker housing is able to partially recharge the device’s battery by generating electric energy from the patient’s heartbeat, according to preliminary findings presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2023.
DocWire News spoke with Dr. Babak Nazer, an associate professor of medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle and lead investigator of the study. He discussed the differences between traditional (transvenous) and leadless (wireless) pacemakers, how his novel housing operates, and the potential impact it can have on improving patient quality of life.
