The American Kidney Fund (AKF) kicked off Kidney Action Week on March 3, 2025, with welcome remarks from president and CEO LaVarne A. Burton. The annual event is, according to Burton, the only free, online national conference for the kidney community.

Burton provided a preview of the event, the first day of which included insights from patients experiencing rare kidney diseases and information about becoming a kidney health coach. Burton also highlighted upcoming sessions later in the week, including a congressional briefing on genetic testing with Rep. Adrian Smith of Nebraska; sessions on long COVID, clinical trials, and rare  kidney diseases; and a Q&A with Pranav Garimella, MBBS, MPH, the new chief medical officer of the AKF.

The goal of Kidney Action Week, Burton said, is not only to provide information but also connections among attendees. More information and registration can be found on the Kidney Action Week website, and recordings of the sessions will also be available on YouTube.
