Wavefront Field Mapping Reveals Potential Ablation Target Areas

By DocWire News Editors - Last Updated: April 7, 2023

Researchers for this paper used wavefront field mapping to gest whether drivers of persistent atrial fibrillation (AFib) may interact to produce fluctuating control areas during acute impact during ablation. The study included 54 patients from a registry whose AFib had been terminated with ablation. Unipolar AFib electrograms were analyzed. The researchers concluded that “wavefront field mapping of persistent AFib reveals a pathophysiologic network of a small number of spatially anchored rotational and focal sites, which interact, fluctuate, and control varying areas,” and that “future work should define whether AF drivers that control larger atrial areas are attractive targets for ablation.”
