On December 5, Baxter International reported encouraging news regarding restoration of its operations since flooding from Hurricane Helene damaged its North Cove, North Carolina, manufacturing facility.

In a biweekly recovery update, the company stated that it has resumed all three-liter irrigation manufacturing lines and all peritoneal dialysis solutions manufacturing lines.

Baxter also noted that, in November, it restarted two intravenous (IV) solution manufacturing lines that produce approximately 85% of the site’s pre-Helene capacity of one-liter IV solutions, the size most used by hospitals and clinics. One-liter solutions released the week of November 18 were the first product manufactured at North Cove after the hurricane.

The milestones were met ahead of their expected timeline, and Baxter presumes that all available lines will be restarted by the close of 2024. However, there is no set date by which the North Cove facility is expected to be restored to pre-hurricane levels.

Meanwhile, Baxter has activated nine plants across its global network to help increase product inventory and received FDA authorization to extend the expiration dates of several products.
