ASH Welcomes Attendees to San Diego

ASH President Alexis Thompson, MD, MPH, welcomed participants with the following address:

Since the first ASH meeting 60 years ago, the field of hematology has made extraordinary advances in both our terms of fundamental understanding of disease mechanisms and our ability to translate these discoveries into advances in clinical care. Fortunately, this upward trajectory shows no signs of slowing down as we open yet another chapter in the book of hematology with the 60th ASH Annual Meeting, the world’s most comprehensive hematology event of the year, taking place in December.

I’m thrilled to invite you to another inspiring year of cutting edge science, educational exchange, and unparalleled opportunities for collaboration. The scientific sessions will explore important themes across the field of hematology, including epigenetic mechanisms, immunology and immunotherapy, red cell biology, and the link between metabolism and hematologic disease.

ASH will continue its tradition of offering select joint sessions in which pairs of scientific committees provide a crosscutting analysis on a topic of common interest.

We’ve also revamped our education programs to be framed around single-patient cases to provide the most impactful context and actionable takeaways for our audience. Topics cover the full spectrum of hematology, including exciting developments in immunotherapies, genomics, bleeding and clotting disorders, and hemoglobinopathies.

Of course, no ASH meeting would be complete without notable oral and poster abstract presentations, inspiring award ceremonies, and the chance to connect with friends and colleagues. The late-breaking abstracts will be presented on Tuesday, December 4, along with the Presidential Symposium, and the Best of ASH.
