The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) will host its 7th Annual Policy Summit on November 20, 2024, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, and virtually.
The event aims to focus the nation’s leaders across the executive branch, Congress, and their staff on policy issues of strategic importance to kidney patient consumers and the larger kidney community.
This year’s summit will highlight discussions surrounding the widespread changes in personnel and policy priorities that traditionally occur during presidential transitions and election year turnovers in the US Senate and House of Representatives.
The summit’s theme this year is National Kidney Patient Consumer Agenda… Where are We Now? The event will cover regulatory, payment, and legislative issues impacting the future of patient care choice and access, research and innovation, and the impact of government determinants of health, which AAKP defines as occurring when agencies knowingly or unwittingly take actions that harm patients.
Speakers will include Rob Blaser of the Renal Physicians Association; Matthew Cooper, MD, of Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Health and Children’s Wisconsin; Jonathan Haydak of AAKP; Steven Potter, MD, FACS, of Georgetown University School of Medicine; Peggy Tighe, legal counsel to the American Society of Transplant Surgeons; and Winfred Williams, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
In-person and virtual registration are now open online.
