Kavita Mistry, MD, PhD, and Marcelle Tuttle, MD, will be the American Kidney Fund (AKF) 2024 Clinical Scientist in Nephrology (CSN) Fellows. The fellowship program supports promising researchers working to improve the quality of care for people living with kidney disease and promotes clinical research in nephrology. CSN fellows conduct research while receiving advanced training in key areas such as medical ethics, biostatistics, and epidemiology.

Dr. Mistry is a nephrology fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She earned her BA, MD, and PhD degrees from Yale University and completed a residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She will be using innovative single-cell sequencing technologies to understand the initial events that lead to kidney inflammation in acute interstitial nephritis. Dr. Mistry’s project reflects her interest in both nephrology and immunology, particularly in cancer patients.

Dr. Tuttle is a first-year fellow in the Tufts Medical Center Division of Nephrology and a master’s student in clinical and translational science at the Tufts University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. She received her medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine and completed her residency at the Tufts Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program. Her research will focus on the development of pulmonary hypertension in patients with chronic kidney disease.

The pair join more than 50 leading nephrology researchers who received early-career support from the AKF through the CSN program. Their fellowships are funded by a grant from Hearst Foundations.
