ISN Announces 2025 Award Winners

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) has announced the 2025 recipients of the ISN Awards and ISN Pioneer Awards.

The ISN Award winners will receive their awards at the ISN World Congress of Nephrology 2025 (WCN’25) in New Delhi, India, taking place February 6–9. The ISN Pioneer Award winners will be recognized at WCN’25 and presented with their awards at regional events throughout 2025.

ISN Awards

Marie Trudel of Canada will receive the Lillian Jean Kaplan International Prize for Advancement in the Understanding of Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). The award recognizes individuals exhibiting excellence and leadership in PKD clinical or basic research whose seminal scientific work constitutes a tangible achievement toward improving the knowledge and treatment of PKD.

Shilpanjali Jesudason of Australia will be honored with the Roscoe R. Robinson Award, named for the former ISN president and founding editor of Kidney International. The award acknowledges outstanding achievements in the field of education in nephrology and medicine.

Ariela Benigni of Italy will receive the Alfred Newton Richards Award, recognizing outstanding basic research in fields relevant to nephrology and established in memory of the researcher who developed kidney tubule micropuncture in his University of Pennsylvania laboratory.

ISN Pioneer Awards

The ISN Pioneer Awards are restricted to individuals from non–high-income countries and honor physicians who have made extraordinary efforts to advance nephrology in a specific country or region. The 2025 winners are:

  • Africa: Boucar Diouf (Senegal)
  • Eastern and Central Europe: Liliana Garneata (Romania)
  • Latin America: Ana María Cusumano (Argentina)
  • Middle East: Shahrzad Ossareh (Iran)
  • Newly Independent States and Russia: Lidia Lysenko (Russia)
  • North America and the Caribbean: Everard N. Barton (Jamaica)
  • North and East Asia: Fan Fan Hou (China)
  • Oceania and Southeast Asia (OSEA): Kriang Tungsanga (Thailand)
  • South Asia region: Amit Gupta (India)
