Managing Patients With Hereditary Hemophilia

By The Fellow on Call - Last Updated: September 5, 2023

The Fellow on Call: The Heme/Onc Podcast presents part two of their hemophilia series. In this episode, the group distinguishes between the two types of hemophilia: genetic and acquired. Acquired, or hereditary hemophilia, comes in two types: Hemophilia A (characterized by a deficiency in factor VIII), and Hemophilia B (a deficiency in factor IX). In terms of treatment, the team stresses that patients should be treated after their first bleed, with a goal to prevent bleeding while preventing any joint damage. The group also discusses a therapy (emicizumab) that can help treat hereditary hemophilia.
