In an ongoing disease-specific series on lung cancer, The Fellow on Call trio continue their discussion with radiation oncologist Dr. Evan Osmundson on everything pertaining to radiation treatment in lung cancer. In this episode, Dr. Osmundson differentiates between “hypo-fractioned” and “hyper-fractioned” radiation therapy, how to determine the number of sessions needed to treat a given number of lesions with stereotactic body radiation (SBRT), and the max size tumor that will react to SBRT. Importantly, Dr. Osmundson also discusses how to avoid brain toxicity, specifically when treating cancer that has metastasized to the brain.
