Balazs Halmos, MD, a thoracic oncologist at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center, discusses the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting, where he saw lung cancer updates become front and center, inspiring the #ASCOLung hashtag on social media.
There were an “amazing number of presentations” that featured lung cancer updates, including 3 presentations during the plenary session that ranged from palliative care to precision medicine and immunotherapy, he said.
Dr. Halmos highlighted the phase 3 ADRIATIC trial, which showed the value of immunotherapy and is “showing benefits, as well as transforming our care—as of tomorrow—for our patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer,” he said.
After all the exciting developments from this year’s meeting, Dr. Halmos hopes to see lung-focused updates take center stage again at the annual meeting next year for another #ASCOLung, he said.
“Hopefully we can repeat it next year,” Dr. Halmos said.
